Aberdeen set to transform major city street into urban park

Aberdeen City Council has launched a planning application to build a £15 million urban park in Queen Street, one of the city’s major streets, as part of the local authority’s city centre and beach masterplan.

The proposals aim to transform Aberdeen’s public spaces and improve the overall urban environment, revitalising the area and contributing to Aberdeen’s broader sustainability goals by encouraging more people to walk or cycle.

In addition to enhancing active travel, the new urban park is anticipated to stimulate investment from surrounding private buildings and landowners, further supporting the regeneration of the area.

The park will feature a variety of amenities, including outdoor seating, informal performance spaces, a terraced garden, and a sensory garden, along with enhanced street greening to foster a greener urban landscape.

Each space within the park is designed to serve a range of environmental and social functions, with overarching themes of urban nature, community, heritage, and arts and culture.

The planning application follows months of consultation with local organisations and stakeholders to ensure the park meets the needs of the community and aligns with the city’s long-term development objectives.
