Integrating e-scooter services into Google Maps supports multimodal journeys

Electric micromobility provider Neuron Mobility, which is running e-scooter trials in Newcastle, Sunderland and Slough, has partnered up with Google Maps making it easier to hire an e-scooter or e-bike. The integration, says Neuron, enables riders to better plan their journeys across different modes of transport.

In use, the service identifies the nearest e-scooter or e-bike and provides directions to it. Upon reaching a vehicle, users will be redirected to the Neuron app for unlocking and payment. Google Maps will also give information on the battery range, how long a journey will take, journey price estimate and expected destination arrival time.

George Symes, UK Regional Manager for Neuron said, “We are delighted to be integrating our e-scooter services in the UK with Google Maps. Since launching in the UK our e-scooters have rapidly become a go-to solution for first and last-mile journeys, providing a convenient link between home or work or the nearest bus stop or train station.”

Neuron reports that its rider surveys suggest that over 45% of trips are directly replacing a car journey and says that by making it “simpler than ever to ditch the car in favour of an e-scooter and public transport, we hope that this figure can continue to rise over the course of this year!”

The integration is available to Google Maps users across 16 cities in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, with more cities promised to come in 2022.
