Traveline Scotland journey planner upgrade gives users better informed travel choices

Planning multimodal journeys in Scotland just got easier thanks to the launch of Transform Scotland’s enhanced Traveline Scotland website and app, which marks the first steps in ambitious plans to encourage a shift away from cars and towards sustainable public transport.

The service is being delivered as a collaborative approach with Scottish transport operators, Transport Scotland and Traveline Scotland. The website and app are reportedly the first of several enhancements designed to make it easier to plan journeys in Scotland across bus, train, ferry and more.

Funded by the Scottish Government, the journey planning service includes information on all public transport modes, including cycle schemes, and provides detail on tickets available and the total journey cost. It allows users to tailor their search results around the quickest route, fewest changes, step free access, or the route with the greenest carbon footprint.

Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop said, “I am pleased that following our Programme for Government announcement and recent publication of the Smart, Digital, Integrated Ticketing and Payment Delivery Strategy, we are quickly following up with improvements to Traveline Scotland.

“The additional information provided will now help people to make better informed decisions for their travel, including on price or eco-friendly choices, and is one of the first developments in our commitment to improve the quality of public transport journey planning services across Scotland.

“This is all part of the wider action we’re taking as part of our National Transport Strategy to make our transport system more accessible, affordable and available for all – enabling more people and communities to take climate action right across the country.”
